Every community contains families carrying responsibility.
Families who work hard. Families who make sacrifices. Families who want to save.
The words that follow come from lived experience.
I wanted to save money, but life didn’t leave much left.
Personally, I didn’t talk about how hard it was to save when I felt broke.
It was private and personal to me and extremely emotional at times, especially when special occasions were fast approaching.
Finding the extra money for gifts was near on impossible.
Each trip into town to access my bank cost me time, money, or a two-mile walk, which involved a whole load of energy I barely had.
By the time I had got there, the cost of the journey had already eaten into what I would have been able to save.
It was exhausting.
If you were like me and you didn’t want to tell anyone you were struggling, and you didn’t want to ask for help, being able to save in a simple, local and private way would have changed everything.
Saving should never have been about it costing anyone more.
It should have been as easy as buying your milk.
It would have restored my ability to save, without needing to explain my struggles, ask for help, or travel far to do it.
Saving shouldn’t be a luxury. It should be simple, local, and within everyone’s reach.
